Forgotten shoulder pain muscles

Have you ever thought about your forgotten shoulder pain muscles? When we have shoulder pain, we often feel it in certain places: the tops of the shoulders, deep beneath the shoulder blades, and even the neck. So, it’s easy to focus on the obvious culprits for shoulder pain: trapezius, rhomboids, maybe some levator scapula. And it makes even more sense to want to just dig in there! Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, this doesn’t always help – the pain usually comes back.

Shoulder pain is about so much more than the muscles we can feel on the surface of our bodies. Most shoulder pain is actually about patterns of tension held across the body, from our head to our toes. That’s why just digging in to where it hurts doesn’t always work, and can sometimes make you feel worse. Just as I won’t tell my clients to just relaxand expect results, I won’t ever just attack painful muscles and expect them to change.

A good massage will take into account the muscles and fascia involved in shoulder pain that are more hidden, sometimes “silent” in their pain. A great example of this is the subscapularis. It’s an essential part of the rotator cuff – but it’s easy to ignore because it’s sandwiched deep between our shoulder blade and ribs. When we spend a lot of time hunching over, it gets just as tight and bound up as the rest of the rotator cuff, yet its position means most of us never get to work on it properly.

A great solution for this is Fascial Release! Unexpected, gentle, and yet powerful traction relaxes it. This means the subscapularis stops pulling on the other shoulder tissue so much. Now, your whole shoulder can let go, not just in that one painful spot. This letting go can travel across fascia. This means your whole body experiences a more thorough and deeper sense of relaxation. As a Fascial Release Massage Therapist in London, I hear from many of my clients that this feels like a deep release in body parts they didn’t even know existed.

I would love to arrange our massage, so we can shift the tension you’ve been feeling. And I have a special offer at the moment, just for you! My appointments are limited, so make sure you don’t miss out. I look forward to hearing from you. – Cat

  • It was my first massage ever and I had a great session. I’m really appreciative of the care that was taken in discussing and explaining the process before the massage and the time I was given to process after it. I highly recommend!!
